City Council Action

Last night the Norman city council unanimously passed a resolution to enter into a lease agreement with the University of Oklahoma for land that can be used for Norman Forward projects including a stand-alone senior center.  The 21st Century Norman Seniors Association would like to thank the Mayor, the City Council and especially Steve Lewis and his staff, for their work in reaching this milestone in the journey to establish Norman as a visionary city in quality of life issues for all citizens.  Many challenges lie ahead but with continued cooperative efforts progress will be made.

The next milestones for the stand-alone senior center, developing a long term concept and securing funding, can begin in earnest now and we look forward to working with the city to achieve these goals early in the coming year.

In addition, there is still ongoing work evaluating other sites that hold promise.  We support the city’s effort in continuing to do these evaluations while work begins on the next steps for the north base site.

We urge each of our members to reach out to your council member and thank them for their support.
